Istat: Further GDP growth in Puglia, +1.1% in 2023. Emiliano and Delli Noci: "This is a comforting figure, demonstrating the resilience of the system. Now we must fully commit to innovation."
Puglia's gross domestic product continues to grow in 2023. Puglia recorded a +1.1% increase this year compared to 2022. This was confirmed by Istat, which this morning published its report on regional economic accounts for the years 2021-2023.
After record growth in 2022 (+5.4%), the new increase has boosted the regional gross domestic product to €87.046 billion (calculated with respect to the previous year's prices).
The increase compared to 2022 is €949 million, equal to 1.1 percent, while at the national level, GDP growth is 0.7%.
Thus, after the 2020 collapse marked by the health emergency, the Gross Domestic Product per capita continues to grow gradually year after year, rising from €20,200 in 2021 to €22,000 in 2022, and finally to €23,500 in 2023.
The disposable income of consumer families per capita is also growing, reaching €17,148 in 2023, compared to €16,472 in 2022.
"An important sign of growth in the Apulian economy comes today from Istat," commented Michele Emiliano, President of the Puglia Region. "It is an encouraging figure that demonstrates the resilience of the system and the effectiveness of our actions. Year after year, Puglia is consolidating its growth path. The Region, with its economic development policies, is a point of reference for the entire productive world. Today we see the fruits of so much work, a work that does not stop, but continues to strengthen this trend, aware that the path taken is the right one."
"These numbers," added Alessandro Delli Noci, Councilor for Economic Development for the Puglia Region, "combine with the positive data on the increase in employment, which rose by 7,000 in the third quarter of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. This represents a trend increase in the employment rate (i.e., Q3 2024 compared to Q3 2023) from 51.0 to 51.3. Following the investment performance of the 2014-2020 programming period of more than €8.4 billion, in the new cycle (2021-2027) companies have already submitted projects worth approximately €1.9 billion, all within a year of the activation of the incentive tools implemented by the Puglia Region and managed by Puglia Sviluppo. These investments are strongly focused on innovation, in line with the direction set by regional industrial policies, which multiplies their value and enhances Puglia's reputation as a region capable of investing in high-value-added projects."
