The Puglia Region, with the tools put in place in the 2014-2020 planning, has generated total investments of 8.186 billion euros, of which 1.086 coming from foreign groups. It generated new employment for 40,550 work units and full employment, between old and new employees, for 172 thousand units. All this was possible thanks to public subsidies which introduced 3.419 billion euros into the production system. In this context, investments in research and innovation exceeded 1.730 billion euros.

These are the data from the latest monitoring of the results of the regional facilitation tools for businesses, conducted by Puglia Sviluppo which manages the tools as an intermediate or financial body. These were communicated by the Councilor for Economic Development of the Puglia Region Alessandro Delli Noci .

“I want to relaunch these data – he explains – to give an account to the citizens of Puglia of the work and commitment of the Puglia Region for the development of the Apulian productive fabric in these very difficult years”.

“In recent days, Bankitalia in its report on the economy of Puglia certifies a growth of the Apulian economy estimated by the quarterly indicator of regional economies (Iter) of the Bank of Italy, equal to 1.2% in the first half of 2023 compared to to the same period of 2022 and in line with the average for Italy and the South. This growth estimate is added to the increase in 2021 GDP detected by Istat, equal to 6.6% and the increase in employment".

“Ultimately these data support our efforts, but there is a need – underlines Delli Noci – to continue rolling up our sleeves and doing more. With the next programming we intend to build a platform that takes into consideration the points of Industry 5.0, implementing investments in research and innovation, focusing on the energy and digital transition, but also investing in training which is essential because development is generated by the skills of workers who are already in the company but also young people who are preparing to choose their future profession. They are the most precious resources in the technological evolution that drives global competition. The support measures will continue to be structural and therefore always open as happened with the previous two programmes. If there were the same possibility at a national level, both the development of Puglia and that of the other southern regions would certainly benefit greatly".

“The Bank of Italy report – continues Delli Noci – also tells us that 'Based on the data from the economic survey of the Bank of Italy, conducted between September and October on a sample of approximately 300 industrial companies with at least 20 employees, in the first nine months of the year almost half recorded a growth in turnover at current prices compared to the same period in 2022'”.

“If we then move on to the analysis of the employment data reported by the same report, we see that Apulian employment continued to expand in the first half of 2023. 'According to the data from the Istat labor force survey , on average first half the number of employed people grew compared to the same period of the previous year (3.4 percent), less intense than in 2022, but more sustained in comparison with the average of the South and of the country (2.4 and 2.0 percent.' more on a cyclical level (i.e. compared to the immediately previous quarter, January-March 2023, in which they reached 1.271 million). Puglia reaches 51.2 with an increase of 1.6 points compared to the second quarter of 2022 and 1.4 compared to the first quarter of 2023. In each of these six years the employment rate of Puglia has always exceeded that of the South and by as many as 3.1 points in the second quarter of 2023 (Southern Italy 48.1 – Puglia 51.2)”.
